Yesterday I worked from noon to 12:30 am, so over 12 hours of work. Chris picked me up from work and I was tired, exhausted, sore, and HUNGRY (even though I ate 3 hours earlier). Because I was tired, I didn't want to cook anything, but I needed to eat FAST. This was our conversation on the way back home from work. Me complaining. I'm just awesome like that sometimes.
We get in the door and Chris immediately goes to the fridge. I work on changing into some comfortable clothes, and by the time I come out of the bedroom, Chris has two plates of food ready for me to eat on the table, and he's working on the third at the counter.
"You better start eating while it's hot," he says, while he's working on grating the cheese.
Wow....
This is even more of a "wow" moment because part of our car ride conversation consisted of what Chris had to eat while I was gone all day. I'm his wife, I have to know these things. This is what he ate the entire day:
Breakfast: A bowl of cereal.
Lunch: 2 left over chicken pillows
Dinner: Rice.
Later that night: More rice.
When I say rice, I mean we had a ton of left over jasmine white rice from a previous meal. Chris heated it up and ate it with salt and a small bit of butter. And that's it.
This is what he ate for half of the day.
In the 15 minutes we had been home together, Chris whipped up more food for me than he had for himself all day. Somebody loves me :)
That's the awesome part of the story.
That night, I'm still exhausted, but full. We finally get to bed at around 3am (after relaxing and taking care of some chores). I tell Chris that I am setting my alarm for 10:30am so I can make my first class, and he is setting his for a little later.
Morning comes.
10:30am
I reset my alarm to 10:45
Chris: Aren't you gonna get up?
Me: No, I still have enough time to get ready
Chris: You are probably going to be late, no one likes to be late.
Me: I don't care if I'm a couple minutes late anymore. Besides, I really have enough time to get ready, I'm not going to do my hair today because it's suppose to be rainy.
I close my eyes and try to fall back asleep, and Chris decides to not beat a dead horse, so he leaves it at that and assumes I know what I am doing.
10:40am
Chris can't take it anymore, and gets out of bed to make me breakfast to make sure I eat well before I leave for school. He can also see that I am still extremely tired and do not want to get out of bed. In other words, I was super grumpy and mad at the world that, heaven forbid, my responsibilities were not going to wait for me.
10:45am
It hits me.
I sit up in bed and yell to Chris in the kitchen, "I'M SUCH AN IDIOT!!!!"
Chris: Why?
Me: "MY FIRST CLASS IS AT 11AM, NOT NOON!!!!"
Chris: Ya, I thought you knew that. That's why I'm in here.
10:46am
Mad at myself more than anything, I stumble out of bed, and walk into the kitchen, still squinting at the bright kitchen lights, hair in my face, hunched over, and resembling something like the girl from The Ring
And then I see that Chris has made me breakfast, and that it is sitting there, waiting for me on the table. I can't help but smile.
You would smile too if you woke up to this.
It takes 20 minutes to walk to school, so there is no way I am going to be on time for my first class. I surrender, eat my breakfast, and go back to sleep for thirty minutes before I have to wake up for my next class.
I still have no idea why in the heck I thought that my first class was at noon. It's always at 11am. Must be my body's way of saying, " I don't care what you have going on today, I am going to get my rest!" Can't argue with that.
Either way, Chris now has another Julene Moment to laugh about.
