Dear Baby

I'm not gonna lie, it's pretty funny when you have the hiccups. But maybe we can just hiccup during the day, not in the middle of the night when I am trying to sleep. Mmmkay? That would be great, thanks. :)  You are still cute though, and you are getting huge! You will have been with us for 6 months tomorrow! Can you believe it?

Also, this video is pretty hilarious. You can watch it when you come out.

Love you little guy,
Mommy

Some things are scary

Like hearing someone blow their nose

But then it gets made into a movie trailer, and it gets even more scary

Maybe this would solve the problem?
Actually, I think it might make things worse.

Well, this is awkward...

PROLOGUE:
You may remember that I have recently just gotten over a serious cold/flu thing. Last week, I was just barely starting to feel better.

You may also know that Chris and I work graveyard shifts at work, so we go to bed super late.  This being the case, our schedules are a little different from the normal person.  Let's just say that on a good day, breakfast will be at noon.  School starts later in the day for us, and we tend to miss our first two meetings of church because it's just too early for us (not a big deal since sacrament meeting is the last meeting, so we always make it to that). We have totally adjusted to this before I even got pregnant, so this is normal to us, and don't mind it at all. Other people, however, still think that we are crazy... and that I am stupid for being pregnant and working such weird hours.

People:
"Wow, you are now just eating breakfast? Why are you hurting your baby?"
"You need to remember to get enough sleep while you are pregnant or it can really mess things up for you and the baby!"
"Wow, you work really late! (pause for judgmental look...)"
"Chris, why are you making your pregnant wife pick you up from work at midnight???"

Really?? You know my personal life THAT well, huh?

If you really knew me, you would know that health is my top priority, and has been for years... even to the point of bugging Chris sometimes! I spent an entire summer doing nothing but researching what is healthy for pregnant women and their developing babies.  I'm not trying to sound like an expert, I just want everyone to know that maybe I know what I am doing!

Note to all: Just because I work late doesn't mean that I wake up early. Thank you very much.  I still have a regular work/sleep/eating schedule, it just starts later in the day than most people.

** Now on to the story**

Last Monday (when the worst of the illness just got behind me), someone from church began chatting with me on Gmail. This person is also pregnant, a few weeks behind me, I think.

Person: "Hey, Julene! How are you feeling?"
Me: "Starting to get my energy back now, thanks! How are you doing?"
Person: "I know the feeling, isn't it a miracle? I'm doing much better, thanks."

Pause for thought: Wait, what is she talking about? I'm just now getting over an illness.  Was she sick too?

Then she chats again : "Remind me, how far along are you?"

Pause for more thoughts: Ohhhhh, she is probably wondering why I haven't been in Relief Society...  (it hits me) She is talking about morning sickness, thinking that I've been too sick to come to church...  AWKWARD.  Do I say something at this point? Or just keep rolling with the conversation , so that none of us look stupid?

I totally kept going with the conversation (I'm so bad sometimes). We just kept talking about our pregnancies and how excited we both were, blah blah blah.

Funny thing is, I haven't had any morning sickness. First couple of months, I occasionally got nauseous... that was it (thank-you summer research).  But I guess everyone at church thinks I am having the worst pregnancy ever.  Oh well!

*** By the way***

I guess I better get these pictures up before they get out-dated.

22.5 weeks here. Baby is around 11" long from head to bum.

Side note: These pics were taken yesterday right after church. The same day at church when the bishop came up to us and said that he misses seeing us, and a lady in the Relief Society presidency went out of her way to come and talk to me about nothingness after sacrament meeting.  Apparently everyone thinks we are THAT couple in the ward.

Julene Moment

I'm blaming it on the pregnancy...

Yesterday I worked from noon to 12:30 am, so over 12 hours of work.  Chris picked me up from work and I was tired, exhausted, sore, and HUNGRY (even though I ate 3 hours earlier).  Because I was tired, I didn't want to cook anything, but I needed to eat FAST.  This was our conversation on the way back home from work. Me complaining. I'm just awesome like that sometimes.

We get in the door and Chris immediately goes to the fridge. I work on changing into some comfortable clothes, and by the time I come out of the bedroom, Chris has two plates of food ready for me to eat on the table, and he's working on the third at the counter.

"You better start eating while it's hot,"  he says, while he's working on grating the cheese.

Wow....

This is even more of a "wow" moment because part of our car ride conversation consisted of what Chris had to eat while I was gone all day. I'm his wife, I have  to know these things. This is what he ate the entire day:

Breakfast: A bowl of cereal.
Lunch: 2 left over chicken pillows
Dinner: Rice.
Later that night: More rice.

When I say rice, I mean we had a ton of left over jasmine white rice from a previous meal. Chris heated it up and ate it with salt and a small bit of butter. And that's it.

This is what he ate for half of the day.

In the 15 minutes we had been home together, Chris whipped up more food for me than he had for himself all day. Somebody loves me :)

That's the awesome part of the story.

That night, I'm still exhausted, but full. We finally get to bed at around 3am (after relaxing and taking care of some chores).  I tell Chris that I am setting my alarm for 10:30am so I can make my first class, and he is setting his for a little later.

Morning comes.

10:30am
I reset my alarm to 10:45
Chris: Aren't you gonna get up?
Me: No, I still have enough time to get ready
Chris: You are probably going to be late, no one likes to be late.
Me: I don't care if I'm a couple minutes late anymore. Besides, I really have enough time to get ready, I'm not going to do my hair today because it's suppose to be rainy.
I close my eyes and try to fall back asleep, and Chris decides to not beat a dead horse, so he leaves it at that and assumes I know what I am doing.

10:40am
Chris can't take it anymore, and gets out of bed to make me breakfast to make sure I eat well before I leave for school. He can also see that I am still extremely tired and do not want to get out of bed. In other words, I was super grumpy and mad at the world that, heaven forbid, my responsibilities were not going to wait for me.

10:45am
It hits me.
I sit up in bed and yell to Chris in the kitchen, "I'M SUCH AN IDIOT!!!!"
Chris: Why?
Me: "MY FIRST CLASS IS AT 11AM, NOT NOON!!!!"
Chris: Ya, I thought you knew that. That's why I'm in here.

10:46am
Mad at myself more than anything, I stumble out of bed, and walk into the kitchen, still squinting at the bright kitchen lights, hair in my face, hunched over, and resembling something like the girl from The Ring

And then I see that Chris has made me breakfast, and that it is sitting there, waiting for me on the table. I can't help but smile.

You would smile too if you woke up to this.

It takes 20 minutes to walk to school, so there is no way I am going to be on time for my first class. I surrender, eat my breakfast, and go back to sleep for thirty minutes before I have to wake up for my next class.

I still have no idea why in the heck I thought that my first class was at noon. It's always at 11am.  Must be my body's way of saying, " I don't care what you have going on today, I am going to get my rest!"  Can't argue with that.

Either way, Chris now has another Julene Moment to laugh about.

Dear Baby

I'm sorry that I've been so sick lately. Neither I, nor your daddy, can remember the last time I've been this sick.  I can't help but think that you have gotten annoyed with all of the jerking around from my coughs and sneezes, not to mention all the times I've blown my nose.  Sometimes, I wonder if you like it, like being on a jerky roller coaster.

Thank you, though, for keeping me company when Daddy has been gone at work and school.  Your constant kicking assures me that you are doing just fine, even though I have lost a couple pounds. They told me that as long as I keep all the nutrients coming in that you would be fine.  You can thank Daddy for that. He has made 3 trips to the store so far to make sure that I get the most nutritious and organic soups and smoothies out there.  He is also keeping track for me of when I need to take my next set of medicines and pills, cleans the house up for me, and gets me things that I need so I don't have to get up.  This way, we can stay comfortable while I try to get better.    He's a good daddy to you already.

I also have like our conversations during my baths.  I had originally only wanted to take them because it would relax my achy body, but I realized that it's some good "us" time.  I like that you kick back in response when I talk to you and ask you how you are doing.  By the way, this little game you are playing with Daddy needs to stop. When I can feel that you are in a good kicking mood, and I tell Daddy to come and feel, don't stop kicking, only to start back up again after he removes his hands. It's not funny! Well, ok, it kind of is, but you need to let Daddy feel you every now and then!

By the way, we have a couple friends who are having girl babies around the same time you will be born, and they already want you to take their daughters out on dates when you are older. Don't worry, we'll start weeding out the crazies as they come along...

Love, Mommy

Pregnant in America

I just finished watching this documentary, and I feel like I would be doing a disservice to all families if I did not share this and pass this on.

As a future mother, I feel that I have a huge responsibility to my baby to make the most informed decision for my childbirth experience that I can. That means learning everything about every option there is.  After much research and prayer, I have decided that as long as I remain healthy and low-risk, I will give birth at home in water with a midwife, a doula, and close family.

This video has helped to confirm my decision.  It is amazing for everyone to watch. It is about a filmmaker whose wife becomes pregnant, and decides to do a documentary about her pregnancy and birth. Once he began filming, he and his wife saw the reality of pregnancy and childbirth that America has created for itself.

This is a beautiful film, very emotional. I laughed, I cried, I was angry, I was scared, I was empowered, and I felt like I connected with the people in it.

Here is the trailer to the film:

This film can be streamed online and ordered through Netflix. If you don't have Netflix, rent it. It is that worth it.  They also have a great website: www.pregnantinamerica.com

I'm not trying to persuade everyone to do a home birth, because I know that it may not be for everyone. I am trying to encourage families to take the step to do your own research and make informed decisions about your childbirth and pregnancy, which includes knowing all sides.  I do believe that hospitals definitely have their place, and they can do amazing, miraculous things.  But so can mothers. If a mother is healthy, you let her do what she was physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually designed to do, and you will witness a miracle.

And the gender is...

Today is the 20 week anniversary of the little babe living inside me. We are half way there! This also marks the day that we got our first ultrasound. The ultrasound that determines the gender.

And.....

We saw a little wee wee.

We are having a boy!

Funny thing is, we had a hard time getting a good steady shot of his face, but he had no problem showing us his little tah-dah.

Another funny thing is, even before we knew the gender, I would always refer to the baby as a "he" on accident.  I had a pretty good feeling that it was going to be a boy.

This is a good shot of his face. To the left is his chest and tummy, to the right is his head. You can see one eye really well, and his nose. Both arms are raised above his head.

This is a good one of him yawning. It was so cute to watch. He is in the same position as the last pic, with his eyes closed and mouth open.

And here is where mommy makes his privacy public.

So far, the only boy name we can agree on is Michael, but we are still open to others if they happen to strike our fancy. So if you have any boy names, put them on the table!  Until then, I'll just keep visiting the lady's room, because this little guy thinks it's funny to constantly kick my bladder.

Baby's First Video

Here is the ultrasound video. The first half is the technician taking measurements and making sure everything is normal, which it was.  The last few minutes are us lookin at the babe.  We got some good face shots! You can see his cute little face, and from out of nowhere, he starts yawning! It really is very cute. We also got some good kicks recorded, as well as his little tah-dah.

Starting at 6:20, you can see his face shots

At 6:47, he starts yawning (awwwwe!)

At  7:36, you can see him kicking me

At 7:57, the technician is nudging him to get him to move so we can see his privacy

At 8:00, his privacy is no longer private

Sold

I think the idea of infomercials are just hilarious... they are all the same and are completely predictable.

BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE! CALL WITHIN THE NEXT 10 MINUTES AND RECEIVE A SECOND ONE ABSOLUTELY FREE!

****FREE! FREE! FREEEEEEE!!!!!****

That being said, I actually still want to get this. I have never been a fan of store bought baby food, or formula, and have been trying to figure out a good system for making my own baby food. I have heard a couple different methods, but I think this one really speaks to moms... it's so quick and easy. And I must have it.
